Simulator as part of the Course
A simulator is an interactive assignment where learners practice a conversation with an AI-powered character. Learners work through realistic communication scenarios directly within the course by responding to the character, receiving feedback, and practicing their skills in a safe environment.
A simulator can be added to the course structure just like a regular lesson. You can place it in any chapter and in any position within the course. If needed, you can also make it required: learners will not be able to continue to the next part of the course until they complete the simulator.
How to Add a Simulator to a Course
Step 1. Open the course editor - In the Courses section, click Edit for the course you want to update.
Step 2. Find the appropriate chapter - Scroll to the chapter where you want to add the simulator.
Step 3. Click Add New Lesson - The link is located below the last lesson in the chapter. A text field labeled Enter lesson title here... will appear.
Step 4. Enter the lesson title - Type a name for the simulator lesson, for example, Customer Communication Practice.
Step 5. Click + Add: The button is located to the right of the title field. A drop-down menu with available lesson types will open:
Create Lesson — a standard lesson
Create Quiz — a quiz or test with questions
Open-Ended Question — an AI-evaluated assignment
Survey — a feedback survey
Add SCORM Content — upload an existing SCORM package
Simulator — conversation practice with an AI-powered character directly within the course ← select this option
Step 6. Select Simulator - Choose the option you want to be added: one of the existing simulators or Create another one.
Step 7. Configure the simulator: In the editor, you will see:
Title — the lesson name. You can edit it if needed.
Course Name — to which course the simulator is being added.
Secure mode — restrictions agains cheating like copying and printing.
Launch without course — allows learners to launch the simulator without completing the course.
For other settings details please go to article Create and set up Simulator.
Step 8. Click Save after completing all the settings — The simulator will appear in the selected position within the course structure.
Additional Information
Reordering — You can move the simulator to another position within the chapter by dragging the ≡ icon to the left of the lesson title.
Viewing settings — The View Settings button in the lesson editor opens the simulator settings, including the scenario, character, and evaluation criteria.
Launching the simulator — The Start simulator button in the top toolbar allows you to test the simulator from the learner’s perspective directly from the editor.
Adding a simulator to a course — If the simulator is configured to launch without a course, it cannot be added to a course. In this case, you will see the following message: This simulator is configured to launch without a course, so it cannot be added as an assignment. You can open the simulator settings and disable this option if you want to add it to the course.
💡 We recommend placing the simulator after the related theory lessons. This allows learners to first review the material and then immediately apply what they have learned in a practical scenario.
Standalone Simulators
Every simulator is created based on a course.
To create a simulator, you first need to create the course that will serve as its source. When creating the simulator, select the single course it should be based on.
By default, the simulator can be used as part of the course experience. However, in the simulator settings, you can enable the option to launch the simulator without requiring the learner to complete the course first.
When this option is enabled, the simulator works as a standalone practice activity. Learners can complete the simulator directly, without going through the course content.
In this case, completing the simulator also marks the related course as completed, so the learner does not need to complete the course separately.
