1. iPad and iPhone
1.1. Google Chrome on iOS
On iOS, microphone access is controlled both by the operating system and by the browser. If microphone access has previously been denied, you may need to check Chrome's permissions in your device settings before the website can request access again.
Step 1. Allow microphone access for Chrome
This setting is managed in your iPhone or iPad settings rather than on the website itself.
Close or minimize Chrome and open the Settings app on your device.
Scroll down to the list of apps and select Chrome.
Make sure access to the Microphone is enabled.
If microphone access is disabled for Chrome at the device level, websites opened in Chrome will not be able to use it.
Step 2. Allow microphone access for the website
Open Chrome and go back to the required page.
Tap the microphone button on the website.
When Chrome asks for permission to use the microphone, tap Allow.
If the permission request does not appear, close the current tab, open the page again in a new tab, and try once more.
Step 3. Use Incognito mode if necessary
If the issue continues, you can try opening the website in Incognito mode.
In Chrome, open the menu and select New Incognito Tab.
Paste the website address into the address bar and open it.
Sign in again if required.
Activate the microphone and select Allow when prompted.
1.2. Safari on iOS
Safari manages website permissions through its website settings and iOS settings.
Step 1. Check the website's microphone permission
Open the required page in Safari.
Tap the Page Menu button on the left side of the address bar.
Open the website settings for the current page.
Find Microphone and select Allow.
Return to the page and try activating the microphone again.
The exact appearance of the Page Menu may vary depending on your iOS version.
Step 2. Check Safari settings
If the microphone still does not work:
Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad.
Open the Safari settings.
Find the website permission settings for Microphone.
Make sure microphone access is allowed.
Return to Safari and try again.
Step 3. Clear the website's saved data
If Safari continues to remember a previous blocked permission, you can remove the saved data for that website.
Open Settings and go to the Safari settings.
Open Advanced → Website Data.
Find the required website and remove its saved data.
Return to the website and sign in again if necessary.
When Safari asks for microphone access, select Allow.
2. Apple computers (Mac / macOS)
On a Mac, first check that macOS itself allows your browser to use the microphone. If the browser does not have system-level permission, changing website settings alone will not resolve the issue.
Step 1. Check macOS microphone permissions
Open the Apple menu → System Settings.
Go to Privacy & Security → Microphone.
Make sure microphone access is enabled for the browser you are using, such as Chrome or Safari.
If your browser does not appear in the list, it may not have requested microphone access from macOS yet.
2.1. Google Chrome on macOS
Step 2. Check microphone permission for the website
Open the required website in Chrome.
Click the site controls icon to the left of the address in the address bar.
Find Microphone and set it to Allow.
Reload the page.
Alternatively, you can open Chrome → Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Microphone and review the website's permission there.
2.2. Safari on macOS
Step 2. Check microphone permission for the website
In the top menu, select Safari → Settings.
Open the Websites tab.
Select Microphone in the left-hand column.
Find the required website and select Allow.
Return to the website and reload the page.
Safari may display the available options as Ask, Deny, and Allow.
3. Windows computers
On Windows, microphone access can be blocked at the operating-system level. If this happens, your browser may not be able to use the microphone even if the website itself has permission.
Step 1. Check Windows microphone permissions
Windows 11
Open Start → Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone.
Make sure Microphone access is turned on.
Make sure Let apps access your microphone is turned on.
Scroll down and make sure Let desktop apps access your microphone is also turned on.
Browsers such as Chrome and Edge are generally treated as desktop apps.
Windows 10
Open Start → Settings → Privacy → Microphone.
Make sure microphone access for the device is enabled.
Turn on Allow apps to access your microphone.
Make sure Allow desktop apps to access your microphone is enabled.
3.1. Google Chrome on Windows
If Windows permissions are enabled but the microphone still does not work, check the website permission in Chrome.
Step 2. Allow microphone access for the website
Open the required website in Chrome.
Click the site controls icon or lock icon to the left of the website address.
Find Microphone and set it to Allow.
Reload the page.
If you do not see the microphone option:
Open Chrome → Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings.
Select Microphone.
Check that the required website is allowed to use the microphone.
Return to the website and reload the page.
3.2. Microsoft Edge on Windows
Step 2. Allow microphone access for the website
Open the required website in Microsoft Edge.
Click the lock or site information icon in the address bar.
Select Permissions for this site.
Find Microphone and set it to Allow.
Return to the website and reload the page.
You can also review site permissions through:
Settings → Privacy, search, and services → Site permissions
4. Android phones and tablets (Chrome)
On Android, microphone access may need to be enabled both for the Chrome app and for the individual website.
Step 1. Check Chrome's microphone permission in Android
Open your device's Settings.
Go to Apps and select Chrome.
Open Permissions.
Select Microphone.
Choose Allow only while using the app or the equivalent option available on your device.
The exact names of these settings may vary slightly depending on your Android version and device manufacturer.
Step 2. Check microphone access in Chrome
Open Chrome.
Tap More (the three-dot menu) to the right of the address bar.
Select Settings → Site settings → Microphone.
Make sure microphone access is enabled.
If the required website appears under Blocked, open it and select Allow.
Return to the website and try activating the microphone again.
When Chrome asks whether the website may use your microphone, tap Allow.
